The transfer window will open imminently for Leeds United to add further to Daniel Farke’s squad for the 2025/26 Premier League season.

In truth, there are several areas that Leeds United must start focusing on as the summer window approaches at the end of this week, but attacking midfield may be the most important area to add to.

Of course, a new goalkeeper is paramount and Leeds need a Premier League-ready No.9, too. However, few outfield positions represent a more pressing matter than in the role Brenden Aaronson has occupied.

Players all over Europe and domestically are undoubtedly being tracked and weighed up. One of those with some long-term interest now is Edouard Spertsyan of FC Krasnodar in the Russian Super League.

The £10 million-rated Krasnodar captain plans to leave the Russian Premier League challengers this summer. Back in February, Spertsyan admitted he was open to joining Leeds as well.

Spertsyan’s agent has been in talks with Leeds previously, with the Armenian’s representatives believed to have met Leeds. He was someone they looked at in January, but Leeds came up short

They decided against January signings and were vindicated for that, but they cannot sit still this summer. Spertsyan has been labelled ‘one of the best midfielders in Europe’ by one Russian football commentator and could be back on Leeds’ radar.

The 24-year-old Armenia international is someone Daniel Farke is familiar with following his brief stint working alongside him for Krasnodar in Russia. Now, Sport Express are reporting that Leeds remain interested in signing the playmaker.

That comes off the back of another impressive season in front of goal with 11 goals and six assists in 28 games in the league. He even captained the side to the title on Saturday with a 3-0 win against Dynamo Moscow.

Spertsyan has been urged to move to Serie A or Spain ahead of Leeds this summer. However, the Premier League could be the obvious best step for one of the best players in Russia.

The Armenian is one of his country’s best players, with Spertsyan winning Player of the Year in 2022 to underline his quality in recent years with Krasnodar.

However, former Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has won that award in 12 of the last 15 seasons, but the Inter Milan man knows just how good Spertsyan is.

Not only has he been described as one of the best players in Europe in his position, but Mkhitaryan has called him a “rising star” on Instagram — as outlined by alpha news.
