Manchester has reigned supreme once again at a top awards event celebrating the best when it comes to restaurants and takeaways across the country.

The Deliveroo Restaurant Awards 2025 celebrate the best reviewed and most-loved independent restaurants that operate on the food delivery platform in the UK and Ireland. Earlier this year, the shortlist for the 2025 awards were announced.

Eight venues in Greater Manchester have now been recognised this year with some of our best burger joints, delis, fish and chip shops, and sushi spots amongst those to receive awards.

The top Independent Restaurant of the Year award went to Crunch in London’s Old Spitalfields Market, whilst Get Baked, which started in Leeds and also now has a bakery drawing in big crowds in the Northern Quarter, was named the Regional Independent Restaurant of the Year for North England and the Midlands.

Get Baked founder Rich Myers was also awarded with the Changing the Game award, for his unique creations, including the whopping 24-layer chocolate cake Bertha which goes for £20 a slice.

The North England and Midland winners were dominated by Manchester venues, including Burgerism, which was the recipient of this year’s Best Burger & American title. Founded in 2018 as a delivery-only burger concept in Salford, the brand now has a stall at Freight Island, as well as delivery and collection spots in the city centre, Gatley and Denton.

Loved by the likes of Tommy Fury and Aitch, the burger joint has even become so well known for its top quality meals that one woman once decided to book four days off work in order to make the five-hour trek from Winchester each way to Manchester to order from them.

The title of the Best Fish and Chips in North England and Midlands went to Atlantic Fish Bar, which has locations in Chorlton, Fallowfield, Hazel Grove, and Didsbury. The Chorlton takeaway has a 4.6 rating on Deliveroo with reviews praising its large portion sizes and its ‘great food’.

One recent customer said: “Best fish and chips I’ve had since moving to Manchester! Fast delivery, hot delicious food! Worth every penny!” Another wrote: “amazing food and amazing service! the food was spot on, couldn’t have asked for more.”

Ezra and Gil, on Peter Street and Hilton Street in the Northern Quarter, won the Best Breakfast & Coffee award for the North England and Midlands. Now 11 years in the game, the neighbourhood spot serves up a menu including the likes of brioche French toast, free-range eggs benedict, poke bowls, pancakes and toasted sourdough sandwiches.

Best Pan Asian for the area went to UNAGI Sushi, which has locations in Altrincham, West Didsbury, Cheetham Hill and Wilmslow. The Altrincham venue on Central Way, which opened in 2023, has lovingly earned the title of the ‘altar of sushi’ due its church-style building.

On Unagi’s menu is a range of in-house ramen soups, sushi, poke bowls, curries and street food treats – like the popular Unagi Cauliflower ‘Bang Bang’, crispy fish tacos, and bao buns.

Bundobust, which has sites in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, was also recognised earning the title of Best Indian & Nepalese for North England and Midlands. It has two sites in Manchester – by Piccadilly Gardens and a Bundobust Brewery on Oxford Road. The Indian street food and craft beer bar serves the likes of bhaji butties, okra fries, tarka dhal curry, and paneer koftas.

As if that wasn’t enough, Manchester venue Yum Cha also was awarded – taking home the Best Chinese award for the area. The Minshul Street dim sum restaurant, within Kampus, serves the likes of salt and pepper chicken, crispy belly pork, veg dumplings, tofu noodle soup and Singapore Vermicelli.

Lastly, Enrico Pinna at popular sandwich spot Ad Maiora was given the Rising Star award. Loved by Manchester City FC players including Erling Haaland (who now has his own sandwich), the delis – on Radium Street and Tib Street – serve up freshly baked schiacciata that are loaded with authentic Italian ingredients.

“Our homemade bread is made fresh everyday, and we import all the ingredients from Italy,” co-owner Daniela told the M.E.N of the sandwich shop earlier this year. “It’s something you can’t just find anywhere else – we think it’s something very special for people to try.”
