Biarritz Restaurant Updates Kashrus Certification To A Lakewood Hechsher

The Biarritz Restaurant located in Crown Heights has switched Hechshers, updating to a Lakewood Hechsher in the most recent switch.
“We are pleased to share an important update regarding our kashrus supervision,” the restaurant announced. “We have recently changed our kashrus certification to be under the auspices of Vaad Kashrus Mehadrin (VKM), guided by Rabbi Tzvi Altusky. VKM is highly endorsed by prominent Rabbinic leaders, including HaRav Noach Isaac Oelbaum Shlit”a and HaRav Elya Brudny Shlit”a, among other prominent Rabbonim.”
Vaad Kashrus Mehadrin (VKM) was founded in 2019 at the request of several prominent Rabbonim in and around Lakewood, setting out on a mission to create a hashgacha entity that would uphold to the standards of the Lakewood community.
According to Biarritz, VKM certifies many well-known establishments throughout the Tri-State area and has provided certification for significant events such as Kinus Shluchim, Torah Umesorah National Convention, and the JLI Lubavitch Summer Programs, among others.
“Our commitment remains unwavering to the highest standards of kashrus at Biarritz,” the restaurant wrote. “We continue to maintain Cholov Yisrael, Pas Yisrael, and employ full-time professionally trained mashgichim to ensure the highest level of Kashrus.”
The change comes just a short time after the restaurant dropped Crown Heights Kosher (CHK) as its certifying agency, initially switching to National Kosher Supervision, under Rabbi Aaron D. Mehlman. National Kosher Supervision is a controversial Hechsher, with this most recent switch to Vaad Kashrus Mehadrin (VKM) considered to be an upgrade.
