He’s been taken to hospital and a man has been arrested

A Greater Manchester Police sergeant was in hospital tonight – Friday – after his legs were ‘crushed’ when a car ‘reversed into him’ several times in a hit-and-run incident, the force said.
The horror collision happened on Frodsham Street in Rusholme, Manchester, at around 6pm on Friday night. The officer, who hasn’t been named, was crushed between the car involved and another vehicle.
The driver is then said to have escaped the scene in the car, which hasn’t been further described.
GMP, in a statement, said the officer was taken to hospital with leg injuries. Thankfully, the force said his injuries were ‘not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing’. He’s said to be being supported by colleagues.
A man, aged 41, has been arrested and remained in police custody for questioning on Friday night.

He was held on suspicion of section 18 assault, dangerous driving and failing to stop, the force added.
A senior GMP officer said the incident was ‘a reminder of the risks that our frontline officers face daily as they go about their duties to keep communities safe and respond to incidents’.
Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker confirmed a full investigation was now underway ‘to pursue justice’ for the injured officer.

Residents living near the area reported a huge police response in the aftermath of the incident, with a police helicopter circling.
The force said in a statement: “We have made an arrest after a collision on Frodsham Street, Rusholme, at 6pm tonight (Friday 30 May 2025), which resulted in a GMP sergeant being injured.
“It was reported that a car reversed into the officer several times, crushing his legs between two vehicles, before making off from the scene.

“The sergeant has been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to his legs, which are not thought to be life-threatening or life- changing, and he is being supported by colleagues.
“A 41 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, dangerous driving and failure to stop and remains in custody at this time.”
The suspect hasn’t been named.
ACC Parker added: “This incident is a reminder of the risks that our frontline officers face daily as they go about their duties to keep communities safe and respond to incidents. Assaults on officers are wholly unacceptable and take them away from being able to serve and protect the public, which is what they come to work each shift to do.
“An investigation is now underway, and we’d like to thank those who have already come forward with information about the incident, and to those in the area who may have been impacted by the emergency response.
“Our priority is the wellbeing of the injured officer, and I wish him a speedy recovery as we look to pursue justice.
