A Greater Manchester park has issued a serious warning to dog walkers, urging them to make sure their pooches stay away from the water.
Signs spotted in Etherow Park in Stockport say blue algae has been identified in the water and warn dog walkers to keep away.
Cyanobacteria, also known as blue algae, is not actually algae but a type of bacteria that can produce toxins that can be harmful to animals and humans.

Blue-green algae can harm people, producing rashes after skin contact and illnesses if swallowed, or can potentially kill wild animals, livestock and pets if ingested.
The signs have been spotted at Etherow Country Park
The signs tell owners to ensure they do not make contact with the water, allow their dogs in the water, or allow their dogs to drink the water.
It reads: “CAUTION. BLUE GREEN algae present. Do not make contact with the water or allow your dog to enter or drink the water. Thank you.”
