Jack Haynes of Nottingham Outlaws bats during the Vitality Blast Men match between Notts Outlaws and Bears at Trent Bridge on May 30, 2025 in Nottingham, England

Notts Outlaws pulled off a team-record chase against Birmingham Bears during their T20 Blast 2025 match at Trent Bridge on Friday (May 30).

After being put in to bat first, the Bears posted 226-5, recovering after despite Tom Latham (7) and Rob Yates (0) falling cheaply to leave them reeling at 12-2. Captain Alex Davies provided impetus with a brisk 40 off 22, but his dismissal on the final ball of the Powerplay left his team at 67-3. That brought Sam Hain (92 not out off 49) and Ed Barnard (55 off 28) together, whose partnership propelled the Bears to their formidable total.

Facing a steep target, the Outlaws launched their chase with a fiery 89-run opening stand between captain Joe Clarke (58 off 23) and Lyndon James (26 off 19). After both fell in quick succession, Jack Haynes (89 not out off 41) and Moises Henriques (34 off 27) took control with a 99-run stand. Haynes eventually finished the chase off, his innings laced with 11 fours and three sixes, sealing a seven-wicket victory in the final over.

The Outlaws’ chase of 227 in 19.1 overs is now the joint-second-highest successful run-chase in T20 Blast history. They share the feat with Middlesex, who achieved the same target in 2019 but took 2.1 overs fewer. Middlesex also hold the tournament record for the highest chase (253 vs Surrey in 2023) and the fifth-highest (226 vs Essex that same year).
