Signs are up at a new venue which will soon be serving up Mexican street food and vinyl records in Bristol.
Alta Loma is ‘opening soon’ on Upper Maudlin Street, according to its Instagram page. No official opening date has yet been confirmed, however the team say they are aiming for June 7.
Work is under way to get the new venue ready. The team said Instagram back in April to say: “The front has been painted. Though we’re nearly done, we have some commitments in May that means we’re aiming for a June 7th opening date. Stick it in the diary!”
BristolLive first reported on the plans back in February, when it was hoped that the new foodie spot would be ready to open in the following month.
The official website at the time stated that it would be ‘coming March 2025’, however this has since been pushed back. It comes after Alta Loma originally aimed to open by the end of summer 2024.
The space will be shared, with Alta Loma in the restaurant above, and the record shop, Coffin Wax, in the basement selling music and merch from Bristol independent record label Stolen Body Records.

The restaurant will serve tacos, drinks and other Mexican street food. In a post to Instagram at the time, the team said: “Who’s ready for tacos and vinyl?
“Tacos, tortas, drinks and other Mexican street food upstairs with a record shop in the basement. This will be your place to pick up @stolenbodyrecords vinyl and merch as well as lots more amazing vinyl. It’ll also be a hangout point for all things @astralradiobristol / @astral_festival.”
The latest images shared via the restaurant’s social media show that the former dark exterior, which has been this way for many years – including the several years the venue sat empty – has now been transformed and repainted a brighter blue-green colour.
The Alta Loma signage has been painted in the window by artist Rachel No, with fans and locals taking to the comments to share their eagerness to know when they’ll be able to venture through the doors and sample the menu.
One said: “Looking good”, while a second wrote: “Can’t wait to try”, and a third commented: “When is opening day?!”
It will be located opposite the BRI in the city centre, previously the home of jewellers Flux.
