A Lark Lane pub has closed its doors ahead of a major renovation under new owners. The Lodge is a well established fixture on the busy bohemian street – and it’s set to get a fresh new look as new management takes over the venue.

Posting on their social media pages last night, The Lodge’s owners said: “A happy ending and a new beginning. From today the Lodge closes for an extensive refurbishment and reopening under new ownership.

“The departing staff and owners want to thank all our friends on the Lane and beyond who over the years have made the stewardship of this famous old pub so special.

“We are excited about what the future holds for 32-34 Lark Lane and can’t wait to see the exciting plans of the new ownership team come to fruition.

“See you at the bar! Thanks and bye for now.”

It was confirmed in the statement who will take over The Lodge and carryout the major refurbishment of the venue.

Lark Lane is filled with thriving independent bars, cafes and restaurants, from historic institutions that have been serving customers for decades, to exciting new ventures seeking to bring something different to the area.

The ECHO recently compiled a comprehensive guide to all the pubs and bars located on the lane, which you can read here.

The Lodge had been part of the Old Rope Walks bar and restaurant group, which also included Newington Temple in Liverpool city centre.

Newington Temple closed in February before being taken on and renovated by new owners. The city centre pub, which dates back to the 1800s, officially re-opened in April after an eight-week refurbishment.

Newington Temple pub is the latest acquisition from Ma Boyles Pub Group – the team behind Tempest on Tithebarn, Nova Scotia and Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery.

They say the £200,000 renovation has seen original features which were previously hidden unearthed and revived. The pub has also received a fresh paint job to match the ceiling green which was revealed after stripping back the roof.

Items dating back more than 100 years found in storage in rooms on the upper floors have also been incorporated into the pub’s décor, including the original pub telephone which has been rehung.

Since calling time on Newington Temple and The Lodge, the Old Rope Walks group’s website state that it is still responsible for Mossley Hill’s Dovedale Towers, located on Penny Lane with an expansive beer garden and rich history.
