King Charles might have to skip one of his favourite Christmas traditions because there are not enough pheasants to shoot at Sandringham Estate. This property, which he inherited from Queen Elizabeth, usually has many wild birds, and the King holds big shooting events every year. But this year, the number of pheasants has dropped a lot. This drop could mean that the usual Boxing Day shoot might be cancelled for the first time in a long time. The King is said to be very upset about this situation. In fact, he has even fired a gamekeeper who had worked at Sandringham for many years.
A source close to the Royal Family told The Sun, “It was a total cock up. No birds, no bang, just red faces. The King wasn’t having it.” The gamekeeper, who was fired, is “well and truly plucked off.”
Although King Charles usually looks calm in front of people, those who know him closely say he doesn’t handle things well when they don’t go as planned. In 2024, someone who worked for him in the past shared that the King can get very angry at times and is known to lose his temper easily.
Speaking with Daily Beast, a former employee said, “Charles can have a terrible temper. Anything he perceives as incompetence particularly brings it out. He doesn’t suffer fools gladly. In fairness to him, as anyone who has actually worked with him will tell you, he himself is always extremely well prepared, well read on the subject matter of people he meets and is working with, diligent and respectful of expertise. The counter of that is that he expects other people to show him the same respect, he can certainly go off at the staff in pretty blunt terms when he perceives someone has not done their job properly, or is just being, to use one of his preferred terms, ‘idiotic’.”
The Royal Family has a history of hunting and it’s often believed that Prince George will someday join his father, Prince William, in the activity as part of growing up in the royal tradition. According to a book, Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, written by Tom Quinn, Kate Middleton has clearly decided that her children, George, Charlotte and Louis, will not be involved in the family’s old hunting custom.
