A sprinkler system within the building helped to supress the fire before firefighters arrive, a West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said.
A man and woman who were in the apartment at the time of the blaze had safely left before the arrival of fire crews.
The fire service spokesman added: “They suffered no injuries, but had minor smoke inhalation. The building manager was at the scene and arranged salvage and rehousing of affected residents.
“The fire was confirmed to be accidental. Our crews left the scene at around 2.15am.”
