A new French bistro has opened in Bristol, from the chef behind the kitchen at music venue St George’s and also dishes served up at special dinners at The Library.

Bistro La Brousse is located on St Nicholas Street in the city centre and is the latest venture from chef Oakan Brousse who is described on the official restaurant website as set to be bringing his French roots and ‘modern flair to every dish, blending classic techniques with seasonal ingredients and a warm, neighbourhood feel’.

La Brousse is also described as being all about ‘good food, great company, and a little Bristol charm’.

The menu at La Brousse will change frequently, with dishes created and handwritten on the wall chalkboard by the chef each day.

Some of the items could include things like boeuf bourguinion (£12.50), croque monsieur (£10), oysters (four for £12), mallard duck breast (£32), steak au poivre (£35), and the likes of creme brulee (£7.50) and millefuille (£9) for dessert, if the opening menu is anything to go by.

In a post to Instagram back in May, the croque monsieur here was described as being served with a peppery rocket and watercress salad and “best enjoyed with a glass of rouge”, with Oakan adding: “One bite and you’re in Paris”.

There’s also a £12.50 lunch deal that includes a glass of wine with your lunch dish.

Meanwhile, the drinks menu boasts a vast array of vodka, gin, tequila, rum, whisky, cocktails, wines and bubbles to explore. The bistro also says it is always on the lookout for new wines to add to the menu, urging diners to recommend their favourites.

This new Parisian bistro venue is located in the former home of Chomp, a restaurant known for its burgers, steaks, beers and bourbons, which closed its doors in March 2020, before reopening in the December as Bristol Distilling Co Bar & Diner.

Chomp then returned to the venue in April 2021, with its last post to social media on 28th of that month.

Taking to the La Brousse Bistro Instagram page since the opening of this new French bistro, fans and foodies have been quick to share their excitement.

One said: “Love this place”, while a second called it “delicious”, a third wrote “book me in” and a fourth described it as looking “unreal”.

Another commented: “Can’t wait to try this place. Reservation made for tonight.”

Meanwhile the culinary team have been showcasing photos of items on the menu – from freshly baked bread to fresh vegetables, the iconic croque monsieur, and some plated steaks, oysters, and croquettes.

You can find Bistro La Brousse at 10 St Nicholas Street, BS1 1UQ.
