Merseyside Police have confirmed the real reason a supermarket in Bootle was evacuated. Police were called to Asda on Strand Road in Bootle at around 10am on Friday, June 6.
It followed a report of “suspicious behaviour” and police said it was reported that a man was holding an item. Officers attended the scene and the item turned out to be a charging cable, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said.
Police conducted enquiries and a spokesperson for the force said it was established it was a false call with good intent. Officers have left the scene and the store has since reopened.
People told the ECHO they were told to leave the store following an announcement on the public address system and a full evacuation took place. The shop has since reopened following the incident.
