- Prince Harry and Prince William’s rarely-seen cousin announced her engagement on Sunday, June 8.
- Lady Marina Windsor, who is the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth’s brother Prince Edward, showed off an unconventional engagement ring while announcing the news.
- She’s far from the only royal to ditch a diamond in favor of a non-traditional engagement ring design.
Wedding bells are ringing for a lesser-known royal couple. Seven years after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in a fairytale Windsor Castle ceremony, his cousin Lady Marina revealed she’s engaged to her fiancé Nico Macauley on Sunday, June 8 with a close-up look at her non-traditional engagement ring.
In an Instagram carousel shared with her followers, the rarely-seen royal shared a series of celebratory selfies with her husband-to-be as she revealed she was “very happy” with the relationship milestone. Lady Marina—who is the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth’s brother Prince Edward—posted the news of her grandparents’ wedding anniversary, but it’s likely the engagement happened sometime during the weekend as she shared several different outfits with her unconventional ring—a cushion-cut black onyx stone set with silver metal prongs and silver hardware detailing on the sides.

In the first photo, Lady Mary could be seen wearing a colorful floral printed dress as she flashed her left hand at the camera while standing outside with Macauley. Meanwhile, the royal could be seen dressed in a white lace dress in a solo shot seemingly taken at a restaurant as she clasped her hands together, showing off a glimpse of her engagement sparkler. In the final photo, Lady Mary and her fiancé enjoyed celebratory glasses of champagne as she subtly turned her ring towards the camera.

Despite breaking tradition with the unconventional design, Lady Marina is far from the only royal to ditch a diamond for her engagement ring. Then-Prince Charles memorably proposed to Princess Diana with her iconic 12-carat sapphire and diamond ring, which was later passed on to Kate Middleton. Meanwhile, Princess Margaret said yes when Antony Armstrong-Jones proposed with a ruby flanked by large diamonds, while Princess Anne had not one, but two different diamond and sapphire engagement rings.
