A police sergeant allegedly took up paid work as an engineer, while suspended from duty, despite Avon & Somerset Police denying his request.

Sgt Christopher Tearle, based in Radstock, faces a misconduct hearing at force headquarters in Portishead on Friday, June 13.

A publicity notice on the police’s website said he was accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour, specifically of honesty and integrity; orders and instructions; and discreditable conduct.

It said: “The alleged facts are: PS Christopher Tearle undertook paid work for a Business Interest (engineering role) despite knowing the request had been declined and while suspended from duty.”

The notice said that if the allegations were proven, they amounted to gross misconduct.
