A new Mexican cafe and bar venue has opened on the same street as its sister venue in Bristol.
Tocayo sits just doors down from Chido Wey, on Old Market Street, with both foodie spots run by the same people.
According to the Chido Wey website: “At Chido Wey, we’re all about bold flavours, colours, and creativity – every detail is a celebration of Mexico. We’re passionate about supporting local Bristol businesses while importing specialty items to bring a taste of the ‘De Effe’ to Bristol.
“Every bite counts. From our signature tacos to our curated cocktail list, everything is crafted to transport you to the bustling streets of Mexico City.
“In June 2025, we’ll be welcoming our younger sister, Tocayo. Opening right next door, Tocayo will serve up Bristol’s best coffee and brunches.
“Stop by to experience the flavours, the fun, and the atmosphere that make Chido Wey more than just a meal.”
Tocayo will be located at 25a and will be hosting an invite-only soft launch this Sunday, before officially opening its doors to the public on Monday (June 16). Popular cafe 25A Old Market closed in April after six years, but confirmed to its Instagram followers at the time that “there are exciting plans ahead for this corner of Old Market”.

According to the Tocayo website, the sister site is “all about bringing a fresh, vibrant take on Mexican-inspired brunches and cafe culture to Old Market Street”.
It goes on to say: “As Chido Wey’s younger sister, we serve up our sibling’s bold flavours with a side of warmth and community, offering everything from handcrafted coffee and specialty drinks to mouthwatering pastries, cakes, and botanas.
“Whether you’re grabbing a takeaway sandwich, browsing our curated retail selection from Otomí, or staying for cocktails with friends, we’re here to make every visit a flavourful escape – a place where food, drink, and good vibes come together.”
The menu includes everything from huevos rancheros (£9.90), breakfast chimichanga (£9.90), and chilaquiles (£10.90), to salads, tortas, cajeta brownie (£4.20), cointreau cake (£4.70) and even speciality coffees (including the likes of cafe de olla, lechero, chapurrado, and a horchata latte).

The new venue’s opening times are 7.30am-4pm Monday to Friday, 8.30am-4pm on Saturdays and 9am-4pm on Sundays.
Taking to social media ahead of its opening, fans and locals were quick to share their excitement. One said: “I’m so excited”, while a second added: “Looks incredible, can’t wait to visit.”
A third wrote: “We HAVE to go here”, while a fourth simply commented: “Yum yum.”
