Love Island returned to screens on Monday, June 9, for its opening episode. A fresh batch of 12 Islanders entered the villa to find love, with many twists in store already.

Maya Jama returned to hosting duties on the ITV2 reality show, which drew an audience of 1.4 million across all devices, up on the launch of Love Island All Stars earlier this year, and bringing the channel its biggest overnight audience of the year.

The show also boasted the biggest overnight programme of the day across all channels for 16-34s, with 364k viewers and a massive 48% share.

Across the launch and the show’s watchalong special, Love Island 2025 brought in 1.7 million streams on ITVX. To date, Love Island has been streamed a whopping two billion times.

All the excitement has seen the ITV show celebrate record-breaking viewer figures following its launch episode. It comes as the series has appeared back on screens for its 10th anniversary run.

Elsewhere, fans were left on tenterhooks after a bombshell entered the villa already prior to tonight’s instalment on Tuesday, June 10. The singles were met with a twist as soon as they gathered around the firepit for the first time.

Unlike previous episodes where they decide who to couple up with face-to-face, Maya, 30, quizzed the girls on their dating expectations, before revealing “things are slightly different” this year.

Speaking to the girls, she said: “You’ve told me what your type on paper is, but does that match your ideal man in reality? Come and join me by the pool.”

The TV star then explained how the new series will differ from previous editions. She said: “Girls, in front of you there are six love hearts and each boy has given me their dating profile which is written on each of these hearts – shall we have a look at what these boys have to offer?”

The boards introduced the girls to this year’s male Islanders – Ben, Dejon, Harry, Conor, Blu, and Tommy – through a series of profiles. The girls were then asked to select their male partners based on the snippets of information they were given.

Each girl was only allowed to select one guy and after their decisions were made, the male Islanders made their way into the Love Island villa.

Out of nowhere, the villa was rocked by the arrival of the series’ first bombshell Toni who made a jaw-dropping entrance. It didn’t take long for the islanders to clock her American accent, as she flashed a smile and cheekily announced: “Good evening UK! Surprise!”

The group is left stunned by the American bombshell and the boys are clearly intrigued, while the girls start to feel the heat. Maya then delivers a game-changing twist: Toni hasn’t just flown in from across the pond, she’s also about to immediately steal one of the boys. With all eyes on her, and the power in her hands, Toni grins and coyly replies: “Interesting…”
