Wellness means something different to everyone, yet it remains a shared pursuit. It spans the physical, emotional, and mental dimensions of our lives, shaping how we show up in the world.
In a time where life feels increasingly demanding and digital noise surrounds us, nurturing wellness is more essential than ever. Embracing well-being allows us to build resilience, find balance, and live with intention.
Noozhawk’s annual Wellness Guide recognizes this multifaceted journey and offers a space to explore it more deeply. This year’s edition is designed to empower our readers with guidance, inspiration, and actionable tips to enrich their personal wellness practices.
By spotlighting local wellness leaders and businesses, we aim to connect our community with the tools and support they need to thrive. Through candid conversations and shared expertise, we hope to ignite new habits and help our readers prioritize their health from the inside out.
In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Barbra Valentine, Owner/Practicioner at Barbra Valentine Sixth Scents Healing Center, to learn more about the meaningful work they’re doing in the Santa Barbara community.

Question: What motivated you to start this health and wellness business, and what inspired the specific services or products you offer?
Answer: In 2012, I completed five levels of training to become a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner (similar to Reiki). It was so rewarding bringing a positive energy flow to my clients, I studied another year to be certified in Aromatherapy.
I felt so honored that people trusted me with their healing of body, mind and spirit, and so privileged to see them renewed, that I decided to go to Hypnotherapy school in Los Angeles, to add an even deeper layer to my healing practice.
Helping people heal from addictions, release trauma and phobias and what no longer serves their highest good is a gift I humbly appreciate. Hypnotherapy was formally acknowledged by the Mayo Clinic in 1958, and I am board certified in this amazing modality.
Q: Can you provide an overview of the unique value proposition of your business and how it distinguishes itself in the crowded wellness market?
With a warm presence and deep passion for holistic healing, Barbra Valentine brings a personal touch to wellness. (Sixth Scents Healing Center photo)
A: My practice is unique in that I am qualified to combine the healing arts of clinical hypnotherapy, healing touch, aromatherapy, tapping (EFT) and as an interfaith minister, spiritual direction companionship.
A combination of modalities may be used to best serve an individual’s needs.
Clients sit on a “bio-mat”, which is a specialized cushion incorporating 17 layers of healing amethyst, copper and other deeply helpful ingredients.
Q: How do you ensure that your services or products align with current health trends and consumer needs?
A: People are preferring “natural” healing help for many issues today. I have been privileged to help people eliminate smoking, alcohol and other unhealthy behaviors and habits. Whether it is a fear-of-flying or other phobias, smoking cessation, relationship issues or general self-esteem impediments, hypnotherapy aligns with people currently seeking natural alternatives to medication and lengthy psychotherapy.
Q: What strategies do you employ to maintain a high standard of quality and consistency across your offerings?
A: I have a beautiful ocean view sanctuary and private office to serve my clients in comfort and peace. I have been trained in the many types of clinical hypnotherapy, and have the experience and intuitive empathy to tailor each client’s sessions to their specific needs.
Q: How do you approach customer feedback and incorporate it into improving your business?
A: The only feedback I have received is when I update clients’ needs and desires, for me to focus on and incorporate into our sessions. I am always open to and honor specific requests, as each client receives a personally written session, to best suit their individual needs.
Q: What measures do you take to ensure the safety and efficacy of your products or services, particularly in areas such as ingredient sourcing or service delivery?
A: I use only organic essential oils that are impeccably sourced from around the world to be therapeutic quality. I personally use the same essential oil the client uses at each session, so we are on the same energetic wavelength.
Q: How do you stay informed about regulatory changes and industry standards relevant to your business?
A: I belong to the American Board of Hypnotherapy and the Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry, so I am updated about any industry information pertinent to keeping my practice current.
Q: What role do partnerships or collaborations play in your business strategy, and how do you select potential partners that align with your brand values?
A: I am a sole practitioner, and protect my clients’ integrity of confidentiality.
Q: How do you prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility in your business operations and product offerings?
A: I only use organic essential oils, cloth towels and sustainable ingredients, and clean my office with organic products.
Q: Can you discuss any plans for expansion or diversification of your health and wellness business in the future?
A: I am also a level 2 certified Sound Healer, and incorporate this also into my practice. I am currently hosting a monthly Wisdom Circle, where a maximum of 10 lovely souls enjoy a deep guided meditation, prompted journalling, a cup of tea and a sound healing… it is beautiful to see my clients/friends arrive possibly busy and in the “monkey mind” and leave floating in peace and harmony!
Q: How do you envision your business evolving to meet the changing needs and preferences of consumers in the health and wellness industry?
A: I am open to serving the needs of my current and future clients, and open to receiving whatever is in the flow of my growth in serving those who come to me. I may do some practice in hotels or other health clinics; but for now, I love my intimate office and one-on-one client relationships.
Q: Finally, what do you believe sets your health and wellness business apart from competitors, and how do you maintain a competitive edge in the market?
A: I feel my practice is “extra-special” because of the combination of modalities offered. For example, a client can be on the healing touch table where all the chakras are aligned for open energy flow, and receive hypnotic suggestions at the same time.
My Hypnotherapy office is in a beautiful ocean-view sanctuary. In addition, my empathic intuitive nature is personal and supportive on a deep level.
