The Macmillan Charity Raceday, the charity’s single biggest fundraising event, will be taking place on Saturday, June 14, from 11.15am.

It follows a day of racing on Friday, where seven races will run from 1.50pm to 5.20pm. Highlights include the 17 horse race – the Seat Unique Stakes at 4.10pm – which boasts a prize fund of £70,000 for the winner.

The charity race day, which is on Saturday, has raised to more than £12 million in its 54-year history.

The family-friendly day will see more than 100 volunteers involved in bucket collections, selling raffle tickets, and generating awareness. There will then be two fundraising lunches, and the leading charity race – The Ride of Their Lives – which gives 12 amateur jockeys the chance to race nine furlongs on the Knavesmire course.

Proceeds from the day will be donated by York Racecourse to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Ahead of the day, York Racecourse announced a new partnership with The Riverfront York, in Bishopthorpe.

The Riverfront’s owner, Kerrie Cook, said: “We are incredibly excited to be sponsoring at York Racecourse, on a raceday that already does so much good by supporting Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Riverfront York will be sponsoring the last race of the day on Saturday.

“The biggest charity meeting in Britain just gets bigger, simply attend to help raise money,” a racecourse spokesperson said.

They added: “Celebrating 54 years of fun and fundraising, this event has now raised over £12 million for good causes, so come along and support Macmillan’s single biggest fundraising event, whilst watching one of the best known sprint handicaps for three-year-old horses in Europe.”

Weather for the two-day event is expected to be warm with some potential for rain. The Met Office is forecasting a high of 26C on Friday, and 21C on Saturday.

The chance of rainfall rises from 4pm on Friday, forecasts say, and from 1pm on Saturday. These forecasts, however, are subject to change.
