LSM, the Latvian national broadcaster, has stated that they are open to returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the future.
In January, Latvia confirmed that they would not be participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025. However, LSM confirmed to Latvian media that they are open to returning to the contest in the future. LSM stated to Jauns.lv that Latvia could participate in Junior Eurovision again some day:
“We regularly come back to this issue and evaluate all the pros and cons of participation, so the possibility of participating in the future is of course not ruled out. It should be noted that, unlike adult Eurovision, a smaller number of countries always participate in Junior Eurovision. This is due not only to higher costs, but also to a more complex process of selecting a representative. The organisation of children’s talent competitions and the evaluation of participants is much more sensitive, emotionally subtle and legally complex than competitions in which adults participate. In any case, this topic is not permanently closed.”
LSM also stated that they are also considering returning to another Eurovision contest; Eurovision Young Musicians. Latvia first participated in Eurovision Young Musicians in 1994 and participated every year until 2002, the same year they won the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result at Eurovision Young Musicians was on their debut in 1994, when pianist Liene Circene finished second.
Latvia was one of the countries that competed in the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and it competed annually until 2005. The country returned for two years between 2010 and 2011 and has not competed in the years since.
