West Midlands Police have launched the appeal and released an image of a man the force said it wanted to speak to following the incident on February 11.
The force said the man had entered the shop in Bordesley Green and gone behind the counter to demand the till be opened, then hit a staff member with an object before stealing cigarettes and leaving the building.
West Midlands Police said it hoped that by releasing the image of the man, it might help someone to recognise him and get in contact.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Recognise this man? We’re looking to speak to him after a robbery in Bordesley Green.

“At 8.30pm on 11 February, a man entered a shop and went behind the counter demanding the till be opened.
“When a member of staff refused, they were hit with an object before the man stole cigarettes and left the building.
“Since the robbery, our officers have carried out extensive CCTV and door-to-door enquiries.
“Now, they are releasing the image of this man in the hope someone recognises him.
“If you recognise this man, contact us via 101 quoting crime number 20/142476/25.”
