Elland Road is set for an exciting future with the 49ers leading plans for an expansion.
With there plans in place for Leeds United’s stadium, Elland Road, to be expanded, updates will follow continuously.
The council gave agreement for the expansion, which means a 53,000-seat stadium is now being outlined, with the West Stand and North Stand getting major renovations.
It’s reported that work on constructing the new-look stand is not expected to begin until May 2026 and won’t be completed until late 2028.
As for the North, work isn’t expected to be done until 2030, but away from that, there is a new update surrounding the expansion, which Leeds fans will want to hear.

With excitement building around the expansion, West Yorkshire will soon see a work of art, not that Fortress Elland isn’t already.
There is a supposed naming rights deal in the works for Elland Road as the 49ers are pulling out all the stops to ensure the new expansion is of an elite level.
Time will tell if the plans run smoothly, but the council are already making clear what they are planning to do with the surrounding areas.
MORE LEEDS UNITED STORIES
After approving the expansion, the Leeds City Council have now released planning guidance on the future of the neighbourhood that surrounds the stadium.
There will be major changes taking place, as in short, the guidance suggests that the fresh plans include a multi-storey car park, relocating the park and ride, trams, and a “yellow brick road” walking route to the Leeds city centre.
The change of the neighbourhood would introduce ‘urban living alongside amenities and commercial use at ground floor level, with the future introduction of trams (subject to route decision) to South Leeds, the site will also benefit from exceptional transport links to both the city centre and wider region.’

The ‘concerns’ over Leeds’ Elland Road expansion
It’s a long process in making sure everyone is happy with the expansion, with many factors needing to be considered.
A new route, as mentioned, provides an opportunity for the fans to experience a fresh look around the stadium.
But there will always be concerns with big developments such as this one, and this was detailed by Adam Pope.
He said that: “Councillor Blackburn likes the idea of ER expansion but has concerns over traffic issues in neighbouring housing areas on matchday.”
The hope is that with the new update mentioning trams, it will avoid these concerns, as the council seems happy to continue on with these exciting new ideas.
