Emergency services were called to an “altercation” at a retirement housing complex which resulted in one arrest and the victim fleeing the scene. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to reports of an incident at the Handel Court flats on Lodge Lane, Toxteth, yesterday evening, Saturday, June 14.

A spokesperson for the force said officers arrived at the scene at around 8pm and saw a man make off from the scene. Following a search of the area, officers detained a man.

A 56-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of affray. He is still in police custody to be questioned. Enquiries are ongoing to locate the suspected victim.

Police remained in the area when the ECHO visited the scene at 2pm today, Sunday. Police tape had been erected outside the building.

A police car, a police van and a dog unit were parked outside. The van and dog unit left shortly afterwards. An NHS ambulance then arrived. It left an hour later along with the last police car.

At the scene, a man said: “I saw the police and didn’t know what had happened so I messaged my friend.” The man, who did not want to be named, alleged that there had been a “stabbing” after an argument between two people.

Merseyside Police has not currently confirmed details about the nature of the incident, or if a weapon was used.

Detective chief inspector Louise Hooley said: “We are continuing with our extensive enquiries to establish what happened and would appeal to the victim to come forward to help with our enquiries. “I would appeal to anyone who has information or witnesses who were in the vicinity of Lodge Lane and seen or heard anything to come forward and speak to us.

“In addition I ask people in the area to please check your CCTV and dashcam footage to see if it may have captured something that will help with the investigation.”

Handel Court is a block of retirement flats. It was built in 1983 and renovated in 2015.
