San Marino RTV will raise its concerns regarding the Eurovision Song Contest with the European Broadcasting Union and other small states.
At a press conference in San Marino marking a refresh of San Marino RTV and its TV offerings, the Director General of the channel, Roberto Sergio, made his latest comments on the Eurovision Song Contest. Earlier this week, the Director General of the Sammarinese broadcaster, Roberto Sergio stated that the broadcaster is considering no longer competing in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr Sergio explained that he wants to see San Marino remain in the contest, but that discussions need to take place:
We will discuss with the organizers and the other small states … we will evaluate participation, which I would like to maintain, but only if there are conditions of dignity.
San Marino is the smallest country competing in the Eurovision Song Contest, and the only microstate to still compete in the contest. Previously, Monaco and Andorra have competed in the contest, but Monaco withdrew in 2007 and Andorra in 2010.
San Marino is the third broadcaster that has raised questions about its future participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. VRT, the Flemish broadcaster in Belgium, has stated it will reconsider future participation if the EBU does not review the voting system. While RTVSLO of Slovenia has stated it will reconsider its participation if the EBU does not adequately respond to concerns about voting.
San Marino RTV has raised concerns in the past regarding voting at the Eurovision Song Contest. However, this has previously focused on the way its televote is calculated, as San Marino’s score is determined by an algorithm.
Gabry Ponte represented San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with “Tutta L’Italia”. He brought San Marino to its first appearance in a final since 2021. In the final, San Marino placed 26th, scoring 27 points, including 12 points from the Italian televote.

San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. On their debut, they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi-final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for its first final.
