Leeds United and Udinese have reportedly reached a verbal agreement over the transfer of Jaka Bijol this summer.

The Elland Road outfit signed Lukas Nmecha and are now on the verge of their second signing of the window.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been on the club’s radar for the last few weeks and the deal appears to be reaching its conclusion.

According to Calciomercato journalist Francesco Guerrieri (16 June), Leeds and Udinese have finally agreed on a £17million fee for Bijol.

By doing so, the Whites have closed the gap and reached a verbal agreement with the Serie A outfit to bring the defender to Elland Road.

Bijol’s career in numbers.

The two sides have been in talks for the transfer and now things finally appear to be ending.

While Newcastle were keen on the defender, Leeds hope to finalise the Bijol transfer by next week.

Guerrieri wrote on X: “Leeds have closed the gap by reaching a verbal agreement with Udinese for the purchase of Bijol. Deal worth just over €20M.”

Joe Rodon can be the perfect partner to Bijol at Leeds United

Joe Rodon and Bijol would form a complementary defensive partnership at Leeds United, enhancing their Premier League survival chances.

Rodon brings 43 top-flight appearances and familiarity with Farke’s high-pressing system, excelling in ball-playing duties with an impressive pass completion rate and strong aerial presence.

Bijol, a 26-year-old Slovenian, offers physicality and anticipation, ideal for absorbing pressure in Leeds’ open style.

Rodon’s composure on the ball complements Bijol’s aggressive defending, creating balance in Farke’s backline.

Both thrive in high lines, crucial for Leeds’ 4-2-3-1, and their combined leadership, Rodon’s vocal presence and Bijol’s 54 international caps stabilise a young squad.

This duo addresses Leeds’ defensive frailties, reducing goals conceded and providing a platform for midfielders like Ethan Ampadu to push forward, significantly bolstering relegation avoidance.

Hopefully, there aren’t any more snags and the deal goes ahead as soon as possible.
