Mr Roberts, from Kidderminster, motivated hundreds of people at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre by teaching body pump, combat and cycling classes each week, and also inspired children in his role as a teaching assistant at Burlish Park Primary School in Stourport.

His wife Sarah Roberts, said he died suddenly of “natural causes” at the age of 51 on June 5. They were together for 22 years and married for nine years.

Mrs Roberts said she has “lost the love of my life, my soul mate and best friend.”

She said: “Ash was a wonderful man, loved by so many.

“There are no words to describe the devastation and loss I feel”.

She added: “The outpouring of love, support, memories, sorrow and loss from people has been overwhelming, I’d like to thank everyone.

“I was already immensely proud to be Ash’s wife and share my life with him, the support from everyone just makes that feeling even stronger”.

A book of condolences has been set up at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre and Burlish Park Primary School for colleagues to pay their respect.

Many have shared tributes on social media.

Lara Johnson said: “It is absolutely heartbreaking.

“I will miss my body pump classes with Ash, coming out wanting to eat all the food mentioned in the yes-no game.

“He was so motivational, funny and a true character. He found my love for body pump, and for that I will be forever grateful”.

Carole Grant said, “I remember Ash when he first started at The Glades.

“He was the nicest, friendliest guy. Over the years, he always had a smile and hello, even if you hadn’t seen him for ages, and his classes were always upbeat, happy, and everyone had a smile on their faces.

“He seemed to have the knack of making everyone feel inclusive in his classes, which is a very special quality”.

Sarah Vargas said: “I am heartbroken at reading this. Ashley, you were one of a kind. A true gent and the most amazing body combat and pump teacher. Your smile and presence uplifted everyone.

“I have such fond memories over the years at The Glades sharing classes with you”.

In a book of condolence for Ash at Burlish Park Primary School, headteacher Heather Lindley said: “His warmth, his humour and the deep kindness he brought into every classroom, corridor, sporting event or visit at Burlish Park will never be forgotten.

“Ash was not just part of our team – he was part of the soul of this school. His care for the children, his unwavering support for colleagues and the joy he brought to everyday moments made him truly special.

“We will miss him more than words can say but we will carry his spirit with us in all we do”.

A funeral will be held at 1.30pm on Wednesday, July 2, at Wyre Forest Crematorium, followed by a gathering from 3pm at Kidderminster Harriers Football Club.

People have been asked to “wear your Sunday best for Ash, with a splash of red for his beloved Formula 1 Ferrari team & Liverpool Football Club”.

The family has said donations can be made to The Donkey Sanctuary and The British Heart Foundation.
