A Co Antrim golf pro has told how the circumstances of an £800 win on Rory McIlroy to win the Masters has left him spooked.

Colin Farr, from Carrickfergus, placed the 40-1 bet on McIlroy to win the Masters in a play-off after he had a dream about it last week.

“I’ve hardly slept because this is actually freaking me out,” he said.

Mr Farr told he had the late night vision after going for an early night on Tuesday last.

“On Tuesday night I went out for a walk and I went to bed early,” he said.

“Probably we were all excited about the Masters because, as kids growing up, you know, we get the Masters week — we’re all excited because we’ve watched it from being very young.

“And so, you know, lying in bed I had the dream,” he told Radio Ulster.

“I got up the next morning, everything had kicked in that Rory had won the Masters and won at the play-off.”

The next morning Mr Farr, who works as a golf pro, told his work colleagues at Whitehead Golf Club, about the dream he had hours earlier.

His work mates suggested Mr Farr put his dream to the test.

“A couple of guys at Whitehead had said to me, why don’t you request a bet?

“I emailed William Hill, and they sent me back and they laid me odds of 40 to one.

“Forty to one! Well, I just said, well I have to have a bit of that. I put £20 on Rory at 40 to one.”

Mr Farr, was at home last night cheering on the Holywood golfer to take home the green jacket.

However, he couldn’t believe his eyes as he watched the spectacle on TV and his late night vision had actually come through.

“I wanted Rory to win. But it actually was freaking me out.” he said.

“I mean, how could you make a prediction like that? And I’m sitting looking at the TV saying, this is — this is not real. Like, this can’t happen.”

McIlroy fan, Mr Farr went on to praise Rory for securing the huge win despite all the pressure placed upon him.

“It’s just, you know… Did any of us ever think that we would ever see it?,“ he said.

“You know, that the young lad, all the expectations that were put on his shoulders from being a very young lad — he’s done everything.

“And golf — golf in Northern Ireland can only go forward.”
