Two people and three dogs were rescued from a well-known Edinburgh beauty spot earlier this week after becoming stranded in rising water.

Emergency crews from RNLI Queensferry and Kinghorn raced to Cramond Causeway on Tuesday, June 17, following reports of the group in difficulty. South Queensferry Coastguard teams were also mobilised in the rescue mission.

When lifeboat teams arrived, the casualties were already deep in the water. They were located around halfway along the causeway and safely brought aboard a lifeboat before being transported back to Cramond village.

The pair and their pets were cold and suffered minor scrapes from barnacles but did not require hospital treatment after being checked over by paramedics at the scene.

As the Queensferry crew were leaving the area, they spotted another person stranded on Cramond Island. A crew member was put ashore to assess the situation, and the individual was also safely brought back to the mainland.

Following the incident, RNLI Kinghorn issued a warning to visitors: “Always check signage at the causeway or text CRAMOND to 81400 for the day’s safe crossing information.

“In an emergency, do not attempt to wade through rising water. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
