A man has been taken to hospital following an incident on a main road in Bristol today, Friday, June 20.

Police were called to Stapleton Road around 12.50pm today after concerns for the welfare of a man.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a man in an agitated state.

Relatives of the man were contacted and brought to support him.

Ambulance crews were also called to the scene.

The man was handed into the care of ambulance crews and was taken to hospital for assessment.

At the time of the incident, roads and traffic monitoring site Inrix, reported Stapleton Road was blocked in both directions due to an ongoing police incident.

Just over two hours after emergency services were called to the scene, the road was reopened.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Police were called to Stapleton Road in Bristol at about 12.50pm on Friday 20 June after reports of concern for the welfare of a man.

“Officers attended and found a man in an agitated state.

“The ambulance service was called, and officers contacted a relative of the man, bringing them to the scene to support him.

“The man was handed into the care of the ambulance service who took him to hospital for assessment.

“Stapleton Road reopened at 3.22pm.”
