The top 10 most expensive streets in Liverpool have been revealed. And house-hunters will need to dig deep into their pockets if they want to buy a property on any of these affluent streets, where average prices exceed £1m.

Nestled in one of the city’s most sought after areas, Courtenay Road and Runnymede Close in Woolton are the two most expensive streets in Liverpool, according to five years’ worth of house price data for Liverpool postcodes, collected by Property Solvers. Allerton Road follows closely in third place, with some of the highest-valued homes in Liverpool.

On Courtenay Road, three properties sold for an average of £1,075,333. On Runnymede Close, five properties sold for an average of £1,074,000, and Allerton Road saw three properties sell for an average of £1,058,333. This marks a massive leap from the average Liverpool house price of £214,310, according to the latest HM Land Registry data.

Woolton is one of Liverpool’s most historic and beautiful villages, with records dating back to the 12th century under various names. Many historic buildings and landmarks still remain in the village.

On certain streets, little has changed since the 1900s, at least in terms of the buildings. Many of the properties on Courtenay Road were primarily built during the mid-20th century between 1930 and the 1960s.

93-year-old Shirley has lived on Liverpool’s most “expensive street” for almost 40 years and “loves” the area. However, she told the ECHO how she has seen some drastic changes over the last 39 years.

Shirley said: “I have lived on this street the longest, I’ve been here for 39 years. It was small bungalows when I first moved here but gradually, because land is such a premium, the bungalows have changed and been done into houses.”

While chatting to Shirley I noticed two of her neighbours’ homes were currently under construction with major works ongoing .

Pointing across the street Shirley said: “That one there used to be a bungalow and that one next to it was too, although they haven’t made that one particularly huge.

“The area has changed so much but I love living here, it’s very different from when I came here, there is so much more traffic and commotion around now, whether it’ll die down after all the building I don’t know.

“It’s lovely and peaceful and we have a park at the back which is lovely. And there is lots of history in the area.”

Shirley moved into her beautiful family home on July 6, 1986, with her husband, who died eight years ago. She told the ECHO how the pair shared many memories in their beautiful home, which has vibrant leafy garden.

Shirley said: “My husband was a keen gardener,” confirmed by the proud photos of her late husband smiling next to his plants dotted around the home.

Inside, the home is oozing with character and memories from the decades the family have lived inside, from the classically styled kitchen to the central courtyard that the home wraps around.

Shirley told me her furniture has been the same since the sixties and the table cloth laid proudly on the dinning table is one she crocheted herself “many moons ago.”

She said: “I have been here the longest, my neighbour has been here the next longest and all the others have been here much less. I have seen a lot of changes. We’ve had so many memories.”

On Courtenay Road the large, stunning homes are set on an embankment and ooze character. It’s clear why these exquisite properties are among the most expensive in the city.

Also on the most expensive list, Allerton Road is busy and thriving, with bars, restaurants and bakeries all dotted along the bustling street.

For years, Allerton Road has been a destination for independent shops, big brands, restaurants, cafes and bars.

With the area thriving, it comes as no surprise some of its many luxury homes, nestled next to the beautiful Calderstones Park, cost on average £1,058,333. But, as you can see in these pictures, the area has also changed a lot over the years.
