In a five-goal thriller, Germany managed to close out the quarter-final matchup against rivals Italy at the U21 Euros. Luckily for Germany, Italy would pick up two sloppy red cards which were the difference maker in extra time. It was a great match with some standout performances from both sides.
Jersey Swap: Luca Koleosho
The Burnley talent was a bright spot in the Italians lineup on Sunday. Koleosho was particularly threatening in the attack, and gave Italy the lead in the second half. His teammates let him down in what could have been a much sharper attack with full strength for 120 minutes.
Der Kaiser: Bright Arrey-Mbi
Despite being disappointing so far at this tournament, Arrey-Mbi had a turnaround performance against Italy. Perhaps lucky to start considering his previous performances, Arrey-Mbi had a strong performance in central defense.
Fußballgott: Eric Martel
The Eric Martel and Rocco Reitz midfield was great against Italy. It is clear that Antonio Di Salvo found his midfield duo. Martel found his inner Toni Kroos and on top of world-class passing, had a great all-around performance.
Der Bomber: Nick Woltemade
Who else but Woltemade? The Stuttgart forward played the hero once again, scoring Germany’s first and assisting the second. Woltemade is playing at an elite level at the moment. It will be interesting to see what he can do next season.
Meister of the Match: Rocco Reitz
The Gladbach midfielder provided why he deserves the hype he has received. Reitz delivered an elite performance as needed. Keep an eye on Reitz as a top talent in the future. Woltemade will receive all the praise, but Reitz is quietly putting in world-class performances as well.
