A reigning unified world champion has been described as ‘unbeatable’ ahead of an impending move up in weight.

A number of fresh stars have emerged in boxing in recent years, with one of the most exciting ones arguably coming from the welterweight division.

Jaron Ennis is the current IBF and WBA welterweight champion, having claimed victories over the likes of Eimantas Stanionis and David Avenesyan at 147lbs.

In recent weeks the undefeated champion with 30 knockouts in his 34 victories had been linked to a welterweight clash against WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, but it has been announced that ‘Boots’ plans to give up his world titles and make the move up to super-welterweight instead.

It’s a decision that his been backed by his promoter Eddie Hearn, who claimed that Ennis will be ‘unbeatable’ once he makes the switch to 154lbs.

“He’s going to put the fear of God up everybody at 154. Not just at (154), at (160) as well, over the next year or so. He’s a massive guy and those extra seven lbs are going to be huge for his performance.

“(He’ll be) back in August, September, and then ready for everybody — Vergil Ortiz, Murtzaliev, Fundora, anyone you want. That ‘Boots,’ for me, 100 percent physical(ly fit) Jaron Ennis, will be unbeatable.”

Ennis had been in talks for a bout against Vergil Ortiz earlier this year, but the clash couldn’t come to fruition and Ortiz instead took on former WBA super-welterweight champion Israil Madrimov, winning by unanimous decision.

With ‘Boots’ now set to join the ranks at 154lbs, a showdown against Ortiz could once again be back on the table, and it would be a fight that would certainly be of high interest to boxing fans.
