Most of the boxing world is keen to see Tyson Fury make a return to the ring.
‘The Gypsy King’ has been a hugely entertaining presence in the upper echelons of the sport for more than a decade.
He first announced himself when he became the world heavyweight champion after an impressive away win in Germany against the formerly long-ruling unified champion Wladimir Klitschko. After that came a well-documented struggle with mental health issues, which kept him away from the sport for a couple of years.
Upon his return, he quickly jumped back in at the top end against WBC knockout artist Deontay Wilder. The pair drew in their first fight, then had two more showdowns, both of which Fury won by KO with 10 knockdowns in total across all three fights, making it a trilogy for the history books.
In 2024, Fury fought twice, both times against Oleksandr Usyk as he attempted to become undisputed ruler, but both times he lost on points, which is what sent him into retirement back in January.
Speaking to Action Network, the WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman reassured Fury that if he does make a comeback, there will be an immediate shot at a world title waiting for him.
“If Tyson decides to come back to boxing, he always has a door open with the WBC. He will always be number one so absolutely (we will give him a world title shot if he returns) because he is top of the top. He carried boxing through the dark times of the pandemic and Tyson is the one who elevated the sport and he’s the one who got Saudi Arabia to look into boxing.
“Spencer Brown is a tremendous influence, a great manager and now he’s managing and promoting fighters. It’s a great team so it’s a win win (for everyone) and my love and my gold heart goes to Tyson Fury and his team.”
Many fans hope that Fury returns for a showdown with fellow Brit and former two-time ruler, Anthony Joshua, who has been out of action since last September with a minor elbow injury.
