A fire engine and three 4×4 brigade response vehicles responded to the fire at the hotel at St Chad’s Queensway in Birmingham City Centre

A fire erupted on the rooftop of a 19-storey hotel in Birmingham city centre today, Tuesday, June 24.

West Midlands Fire Service rushed to the Holiday Inn Express Snowhill, located at St Chad’s Queensway, from 12.15pm.

A fire engine and three 4×4 brigade response vehicles were called after the blaze involving a telephone transmitter.

Firefighters used extinguishers to put out the fire which could be seen in video footage posted above.

While the united was taken apart, the fire service added.

A fire service spokesman told BirminghamLive: “Shortly after 12.15pm on Tuesday (24 June), we responded to St Chad’s Queensway in Birmingham City Centre.

“A fire engine and three 4×4 brigade response vehicles responded, crewed by firefighters from Highgate, Aston and Ladywood stations.

“The first crew arrived at the scene within four minutes of being mobilised.

“This was a fire affecting a telephone transmitter on a hotel roof. Firefighters used extinguishers to put out the fire.

“The unit was dismantled and advice was given to the site manager.

“We left the scene at 12.30pm.”
