Ryan Garcia‘s next move in boxing is currently unknown.

‘King Ry’ was last in action in May as he returned for the first time in over a year, following his failed drugs test which saw his April 2024 victory over Devin Haney overturned to a no contest.

That was deemed to be a career-best performance from Garcia, but he couldn’t replicate it when he competed last month, getting dropped on his way to a shock points defeat to Rolly Romero at Times Square in New York.

A victory there would have seemingly paved the way for a rematch between Garcia and Haney, and while Haney held up his end of the bargain by defeating Jose Ramirez on that New York card, the loss for ‘King Ry’ has thrown the second meeting into serious doubt.

Instead, Garcia may now be setting his sights on taking on a man that Floyd Mayweather once fought before he retired from the sport in 2017.

Mayweather ended his career with a perfect 50-0 record, having defeated the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez.

It’s another of Mayweather’s former foes that Garcia is targeting though, after he told Clocked n Loaded that he wants to take on Conor McGregor.

“I want to fight Conor McGregor. I hate him. It’s beef now.”

McGregor fought Mayweather in August 2017, but it was a comfortable victory for the boxing legend, stopping the former UFC champion in the tenth round.

Since then McGregor’s career has become inactive, having not competed in the UFC since back in 2021, making a potential bout with Garcia extremely unlikely.
