Flights to Almeria start on Tuesday (June 24) and will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays with Palermo starting on Thursday (June 26) and operating twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

The airline has also added an additional plane to its fleet at the airport, making it 19 easyJet planes at the Bristol Airport base.

The new Airbus A320neo will support around 400 direct and indirect jobs, the airport said, and is a quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft that previous models.

easyJet now offers 83 routes from Bristol to destinations spanning Europe and North Africa and last week it announced new routes for winter will go on sale from Bristol to Munich, Vienna, Zurich and Verona.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager said: “We are pleased to welcome our 19th aircraft to Bristol Airport, as well as the launch of our new routes to Almeria and Palermo.

“Not only does our fleet growth in Bristol support many skilled jobs and connectivity which play a crucial role in economic growth, it is a clear demonstration of our continued commitment to serving customers in the southwest as well as supporting inbound travel for tourism.

“Through our unrivalled short-haul network and unique easyJet holidays offering, we continue to provide more choice and value for money, always aiming to make travel easy for the 6 million customers we fly to and from Bristol each year”

Rupert Lawrie, Commercial Director at Bristol Airport, said: “It was fantastic to see easyJet’s brand new plane arrive and become the nineteenth of their aircraft to call Bristol home.

“We’re especially pleased to welcome another Airbus A320Nneo. This underpins our commitment to local communities that we are actively encouraging newer, quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft to Bristol Airport.

“These aircraft now make up more than half of the easyJet fleet at Bristol and compares very favourably with other UK airports – with eleven Airbus NEO aircraft planned in total.

“We’re really proud to be one of easyJet’s biggest European bases, which is so important for providing not only unrivalled choice of destinations, connections and frequency, but more high-quality jobs in our region.”
