Dua Lipa has issued a special message to Liverpool as she reflected on a memorable evening last night. The 29-year-old popstar brought her selection of hits to Merseyside for the first of two shows at Anfield this week.

The singer has enjoyed a close connection to the city ever since Liverpool FC adopted her song, One Kiss, as an unofficial club anthem after she performed the pre match show at the 2018 Champions League final. Thousands braved the torrential rain to dance the night away with the popstar in L4.

Dua has taken to Instagram to thank fans for their energy in a heartfelt post. In a series of images shared with her 87.7m Instagram followers, she said how she was blown away by how the fans partied through the rain as she vowed to do it all again tonight.

She said: “And through the downpour of an English summer, Liverpool you were with me every step of the way! I love you I love you I love you!!!! Let’s go again tonight!!!!!” One of the snaps featured an image alongside Liverpool’s own Dave McCabe, who was the special guest on Tuesday’s show.

Dua paid tribute to her bond with the city as she introduced The Zutons frontman onto the stage to perform a special duet of Valerie. She said: “Oh man, I’m so happy to be here. Thank you for all the love, thank you for all the support.

“Thank you for dancing in the rain with me tonight. I feel like with Liverpool we’ve always had a crazy connection. Liverpool has a connection with a lot of things, but one thing it does have a crazy connection to is music.

“I feel like for this next song, I want to bring out a friend of mine. For every single artist, you dream about making a song that will stand the test of time and people will sing over and over.

“As we discussed earlier, we said this song kind of belong to the world. So without further ado, I would like to introduce Liverpool legend, Dave McCabe from The Zutons.”

Valerie wasn’t the only addition to the show for Liverpool. Anfield went wild when Dua Lipa performed One Kiss earlier in the evening as the fourth song on the setlist.

However, the popstar knew she had to give the song another airing while she was in its spiritual home. As she wrapped up the show, she performed a shortened version of One Kiss before ending the set with Houdini.

She repeatedly hailed her connection to the city and branded the opportunity to perform in Merseyside as a dream come true towards the end of the gig.

She told the crowd: “Thank you for your energy. Thank you for singing with me, thank you for dancing with me. Thank you for your surrendering to this English summer that we’ve got going on right now.

“What a dream it it is to be here. You’ve just got to let it be. For the next song I want to feel you guys really close. Let me put all the lights up.” Dua Lipa walked in front of The Kop to perform her hit song, Be The One.

After she brought an end to the song, Dua told the audience: “Liverpool you’re the one. Thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart thank you for singing with me, thank you for dancing with me. This has been an incredible night.”

The Liverpool show was a continuation of the Radical Optimism tour, which kicked off at Wembley Stadium for two nights on June 20 and 21.

The singer’s Radical Optimism album was released in May last year through Warner Records. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and surpassed one billion streams on Spotify in June 2024.
