Jane Austen’s classic period drama Sense and Sensibility is getting a new movie adaptation.
The 1811 novel tells the story of the Dashwood sisters who seek financial security through marriage after suddenly being made destitute.
The story was previously adapted into a 1995 film starring Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman.
Screen Daily has reported that Georgia Oakley is set to direct a new adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, starring Normal People‘s Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Daisy is set to star as Elinor, the eldest of the Dashwood sisters, while casting for her younger sibling Marianne is yet to be announced.

The script for the Working Title Films and Focus Features production will be penned by author Diana Reid, who previously wrote Signs of Damage and Love & Virtue, among others.
Focus Features and Working Title also worked together on the 2005 Austen adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and the 2020 adaptation of Emma.
The publication reports that production on Sense and Sensibility will begin next month in the UK.
Daisy teased the news on her Instagram page, sharing a selfie of her reading Jane Austen with the “side eye” emoji as the caption.

It comes as the Netflix series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is also set to go into production.
The screenplay is being written by Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton, with casting news yet to be announced.
Pride and Prejudice tells the story of the eldest Bennet sister, Elizabeth, and her budding relationship with a wealthy aristocrat named Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Netflix also previously adapted Austen’s 1817 novel Persuasion into a feature film in 2022 starring Dakota Johnson.
