An Indian restaurant has seen a remarkable turnaround, going from a zero food hygiene rating to a four in just two months.
The Indian Hive on Poulton Road in Wallasey was given the worst possible rating following two visits by Wirral Council food hygiene inspectors on April 24 and 25. A Freedom of Information request revealed this was due to a mouse infestation, with lots of droppings found by the local authority.
Wirral Council told the ECHO the restaurant had requested a revisit and a rescore following its rating in April. On June 25 in the evening, a new inspection was carried out, giving the business a new food hygiene rating of four, which means cleanliness and hygiene are considered “good.”
According to a food hygiene report seen by the ECHO, the restaurant scored well for hygienic food handling and the management of food safety. It was considered good in both of these areas, while the cleanliness and condition of the restaurant were considered “generally satisfactory.”
A spokesperson for the company said: “We are proud to announce that Indian Hive has now been awarded a 4-star food hygiene rating, following a period of focused improvements and teamwork.
“After receiving our previous rating, we immediately took action to address the issues raised. We worked closely with third-party contractors and, importantly, with the support and guidance of the council, who gave us the opportunity to improve our standards and raise our score.
“This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of our team, who have gone above and beyond to ensure that our kitchen and service areas meet the high standards our customers deserve. We are incredibly proud of the transformation we’ve made and grateful for the continued support from our loyal customers throughout this journey.

On Google, the business currently has a rating of 4.9 based on 47 Google reviews and a rating of 5 stars on TripAdvisor. On the restaurant’s website, the business said its goal “is to stand out as a unique dining destination where South meets North Indian cuisine.
