Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has outlined what he believes Bryan Mbeumo will bring to Old Trafford ahead of his expected arrival from Brentford.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Wednesday, United are closing in on the signing of Mbeumo after submitting an improved offer in excess of £60million. They saw an opening bid worth £55m knocked back earlier this month.

Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals last season, meaning he was the fourth-highest scorer in the division. United have prioritised strengthening their attack this summer and he would be an excellent addition.

“I think he is a wonderful signing if Man United get him,” the former United defender said on Rio Ferdinand Presents. “He adds a lot of things I have been asking for.

“[He is] dynamic, can score goals, has power, can get from the halfway line to the edge of the box in a one-on-one situation, that is what I want.”

Despite Mbeumo’s impending arrival shaping up to be a huge boost for United, it remains to be seen what head coach Ruben Amorim will consider to be his best position amid his versatile profile.

The general belief is that he will be deployed as the right-sided No.10, but he could also play at right wing-back.

With that in mind, it remains to be seen exactly where Amad will fit into Amorim’s plans after an impressive 2024/25 campaign, and Ferdinand is looking forward to seeing how the United boss will set his team up.

He added: “You’ve got two players now on the right-hand side. Amad was terrific last season when he played before the injury.

“He’s one of our biggest threats. I’m interested to see now where Mbeumo and Amad fit in this team.”
