Sheffield United are slowly but surely getting over the heartbreak of their 2024/25 Championship play-off final defeat to Sunderland.
With every EFL fixture now announced, Blades supporters will already be planning out their journeys for the first few weeks of the new campaign as they look for a repeat of their play-off semi-final victory over Bristol City on the opening weekend.
A trip to South Wales to face Swansea City is then next on the cards for Ruben Selles’ side as the Spaniard starts to get settled in at Bramall Lane following Chris Wilder’s departure earlier in June.
However, the future of Gustavo Hamer at Sheffield United is up for debate, and a fresh report coming out of the Netherlands will be of huge concern to those in S2.
PSV Eindhoven show an interest in Sheffield United ace Gustavo Hamer
While Leeds United were firmly interested in Hamer last summer, a move back to the Netherlands could be on the cards in this year’s window according to a report from Dutch outlet Eindhovens Dagblad.

They have stated that PSV are huge fans of the midfielder and the player himself is keen on returning to the nation that he calls home.
Our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, has backed these claims about the Sheffield United ace and told EFL Analysis that the 28-year-old is pushing for a place in the Netherlands team for the 2026 World Cup and playing in the Eredivisie could help his chances.
The report regarding PSV has stated that the Dutch outfit expect to pay between €8-12m for Hamer after he won the Championship Player of the Year award for 2024/25.
Gustavo Hamer’s Blades departure feels inevitable
After Sunderland’s victory in the play-off final, the chances that Sheffield United have of keeping hold of their key players have lessened.
Hamer is included with that, and he will be keen to play top flight football as soon as possible – especially with the World Cup coming up in the next 12 months.
At 28, the Dutch midfielder is entering the peak of his powers and with the Blades a bit of an unknown entity in the Championship next season, he may try to push for a move if PSV do make a formal approach.
