Jake Paul could fight for not one but two world titles in his next fight after facing off with Zurdo Ramirez on Saturday night.

The controversial social media star-turned-boxer had to overcome a late flurry from former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to win arguably the toughest fight of his boxing career. Meanwhile in the co-main event, Ramirez struggled to a 12-round decision win over 39-year-old Yuniel Dorticos.

And while it might seem farcical that Paul after just 13 fights would compete for a world title, he appears to have earned a ranking from the WBA, with the WBC expected to follow suit. As a result, he is a viable contender to Ramirez’s world title.

Jake Paul faces off with Zurdo Ramirez after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr win

Following his victory over Chavez Jr, Jake Paul headed backstage to face the press alongside Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian. And within minutes of him beginning to answer questions, WBA and WBO champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez arrived.

After about 20 minutes of a Q&A, Paul stepped off stage and Ramirez headed on to meet the media. But before they broke apart, Bidarian called for the pair to face off in front of the world’s press who were quick to take out their cameras and film the moment.

The pair’s face-off was relatively intense, with Paul telling the champion he looked slow in his win over Dorticos just prior to his own ring walk. Ramirez stayed silent, almost laughing at Paul’s attempts to engage in trash talk.

Paul is currently 12-1 as a professional and had just one white collar bout before turning over in 2020. But he could be heading towards a world title shot after his latest ten-rounder and defeating a former WBC title holder in Chavez Jr.

Jake Paul called out five potential opponents after Chavez victory

Following his victory, Paul was quick to goad the crowd on the microphone by insisting that the win had come easily to him amid a chorus of boos. And he proceeded to make calls for a slew of different fighters at varying different levels.

“It was flawless,” Paul said in his post-fight interview. “I think I only got hit 10 times. He just survived and thought I did great. Going 10 rounds against a former world champion who’s never been stopped. He’s in there with Canelo, all of these guys, and I embarrassed him like that.”

“I want tougher fighters and I want to be a world champion. ‘Zurdo’ [Ramirez] looked slow tonight. That’s easy work. I want Badou Jack. Tommy Fury can get it too. Stop running from me, Tommy.”
