Coronation Street spoilers follow from Monday’s episode (30 June), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street airs a major change in Carl and Abi Webster’s story tonight as Kevin finally grows suspicious over their strange interactions.

Abi has been fighting her feelings for her brother-in-law over the past few weeks – but her luck is about to run out as Kevin realises that she’s keeping secrets from him.

In an eventful episode for the trio tonight, Kevin picks up Abi’s phone and spots a flirtatious message that Carl recently sent.

Although he’s unhappy that Carl has been boldly asking “to get to know Abi better”, Kevin initially keeps quiet over his upsetting discovery.

The mechanic’s silence doesn’t last for long, though. His suspicions grow further when he makes a second discovery, realising that Abi has tried to get Carl sacked from the garage by sabotaging his work.

Seeing no other reason why Abi wouldn’t want Carl around at the garage, Kevin openly accuses them of having an affair.

Abi denies any wrongdoing and insists that Carl has been bothering her with inappropriate texts.

Although Kevin accepts this explanation, he soon makes his third discovery of the day when he spots Abi and Carl secretly hugging. With the pair unaware that Kevin can see them, their cover story appears to have been blown already…

Will Kevin finally realise that there’s a mutual attraction between Abi and Carl? And could this push him into drastic action to protect his marriage?

Speaking recently about the storyline, Sally Carman-Duttine – who plays Abi – told us: “She’s trying her best. She’s got all the feelings and she’s really digging deep to avoid Carl and to not go down that path, because she knows that’s just going to be a disaster or it’s going to cause a lot of heartbreak.

“The consequences will be huge. So she’s fighting with every inch of willpower, whatever she’s got.

“But he’s not helping her. Carl’s quite blatant. He’s loving the thrill of the chase and she’s also loving it, but she’s really trying to fight it.”

She added: “Because Kevin’s so ill, she feels absolutely, desperately aware that she just can’t do anything while he’s ill. So I think that is a massive pull for her to stay and make it work and to look after Jack as well.

“It would be the lowest of the low and she does love Kev, she does care about him deeply. It’s something that she wouldn’t do because she’s not just out for herself, but she’s fighting her demons as well. There’s these old, addictive elements that take her off the rails at times.”

Coronation Street airs Kevin’s discoveries tonight at 8pm on ITV1. The episode is also streaming early now on ITVX and YouTube.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
