Josh Windass could leave Sheffield Wednesday during the summer transfer window after reportedly asking to depart.
The Owls’ squad is being depleted amid the club’s ongoing financial problems.
Sheffield Wednesday have a three-window transfer ban, meaning they can’t sign any players until January 2027.
It has also limited how much the club are able to offer players, with a fee of no more than £7,000-a-week touted.
Dejphon Chansiri is facing strike action, with a number of Wednesday stars now able to leave for free.
The exits have already begun, with Callum Paterson departing for nothing this summer.
Meanwhile, despite having a one-year extension triggered to ensure he would not be a free agent, it has now emerged that Josh Windass wants to leave Sheffield Wednesday.

The 13-goal midfielder has already received transfer interest during 2025, including in the summer.
Back in January, Santos were linked with a surprising move for the Owls ace, though that did not come to pass. They could renew their interest after the latest news regarding the player, though nothing is confirmed at this stage.
More recently, it has been reported that Valencia were interested in Windass.
The La Liga outfit are now managed by former West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, and at present, they are the only side with any recent links.
Moving to the Spanish top flight would certainly be a good move for the player, but it remains to be seen if they will make an official approach.
Wednesday players can terminate their contracts if they haven’t been paid for two months, so Windass could sign for any new club on a free.
Away from the teams who have already shown an interest this summer, there is sure to be plenty of interest in the experienced star now that he’s open to a Sheffield Wednesday exit.
What Josh Windass has said about Valencia
Windass spoke about Valencia links in late May, but remained coy regarding a potential move.
However, he did confirm that he was close to signing for West Brom last year, who Corberan was manager of at the time.
He said: “I don’t know anything about that to be honest.
“That’ll be because of Carlos [Corberan]. I was close to going to West Brom last summer because I was a free transfer and I was close to going to West Brom and ended up staying at Sheffield Wednesday.”
It would make sense for Corberan to be still eyeing the player this summer after missing out on him in 2024, especially if he becomes available for free.
