MPs representing Greater Manchester constituencies received gifts and trips totalling almost £40,000 since the General Election, figures have revealed.

Analysis of the MPs’ Register of Interests by the Manchester Evening News shows 15 Greater Manchester MPs made declarations.

There were 12 who declared no gifts or trips at all – including Culture Secretary and MP for Wigan, Lisa Nandy. The Deputy Prime Minister, Ashton-under-Lyne MP Angela Rayner, declared £350 for a dinner event linked to a charity.

Our MPs declared tickets for football, rugby and cricket matches, with one declaration made for the World Darts final and another for a racing meeting at Haydock.

There were also declarations for travel and trips abroad to attend forums and functions, including one to Taiwan. Nationally, the figures show MPs have received £1.3million in gifts and trips abroad since the election in July last year.

A row over free tickets caused early problems for Sir Keir Starmer’s Government back in September, but the practice of receiving gifts has continued.

The Register of Interests shows MPs have received a total of 454 gifts from UK sources, worth a total of £477,593. They’ve also received trips abroad worth a total of £786,715, donated by a variety of organisations such as foreign governments, think tanks, and private individuals.

Nigel Farage has been the biggest beneficiary of gifts and trips abroad. The Clacton MP’s entries in the register since the election come to a total of £100,038.

The two most expensive of those are from party donor Christopher Harborne. A trip to the United States to ‘support a friend who was almost killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage’ was valued at £32,836. A second US trip, this time for Donald Trump’s inauguration, cost Mr Harborne £27,617.

In fact, Mr Farage has received a total of five paid-for trips to the USA since the July 2024 election.

George Cottrell donated one of the trips, valued at £15,277, for what is described as a “personal meeting”. The New York Young Republicans Club paid £4,362 for a speaking engagement, and CPAC donated a £280 trip to speak at their conference. Other gifts registered by Nigel Farage are a £8,413 return helicopter journey paid for by JC Bamford Excavators, and two Ringside seats for Derek Chisora Vs Joe Joyce, valued at £2,000.

Former Tory leadership hopeful Tom Tugendhat has received the next highest total. His gifts and trips were valued at a total of £34,916. That includes a £12,404 trip to the USA to speak at a Hudson Institute conference and £9,997 to attend a dinner on internal policy hosted by Todd Ricketts.

The biggest recipient of hospitality from UK sources was the Prime Minister, thanks to his regular attendance at Arsenal games.

Sir Keir Starmer declared £11,170 worth of football tickets over the past year. A long-standing Arsenal season ticket holder, he has previously said that he is no longer able to sit in the stands because of security concerns, but has been offered a seat in the club directors’ box so he can continue to attend matches with his son.

The Prime Minister declared a total of £17,344 in hospitality and other gifts since the election, with other donations including tickets from Universal Music and the FA to see Taylor Swift and the loan of clothes to his wife.

Not included in the gadget are any donations or gifts received by MPs to cover legal costs. We have also excluded any UK received gifts that were received before the election that might have been declared afterwards.
