Thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail will batter parts of the UK for 12 hours.

A total of 26 areas in England could see miserable conditions on Sunday, July 6.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms will be in force between 7am and 7pm on Sunday, July 6.

The Met Office said: “Thunderstorms are expected to occur during Sunday, initially in the west of the region but spreading east through the morning.

“These will bring heavy rain, lightning and some hail.

“Within the warning area, 15-25 mm of rain is expected quite widely, much of this falling within two or three hours at any given place.

“Where repeated thunderstorms occur, locally higher peaks of 40-60 mm are possible.”

There could be damage caused by lightning strikes, along with flooding in some areas.

Public transport could be affected, with longer journey times and delays at short notice.

‘Some short term loss of power and other services is likely’, the Met Office added.
