Remco Evenepoel wants out at Soudal-Quick Step before his contract expires at the end of 2026. Multiple sources close to the discussions, who were granted anonymity to protect their positions, have confirmed to Escape Collective that the 25-year-old double Olympic champion has opened talks with Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe about joining the German squad.

One source familiar with Evenepoel’s thinking indicated the rider will inform Soudal-Quick Step of his intention to exit after the Tour de France wraps up at the end of July, while others suggest discussions are underway already.

Evenepoel’s valid contract, with a year and a half remaining, is a persistent hurdle. With Evenepoel wanting to leave, Soudal-Quick Step will want to recoup some of their rider’s value instead of letting him walk away for free. It is widely believed by multiple sources involved that an agreement can be found that works for all parties.

Beyond the sources close to Evenepoel, there is a pile of circumstantial evidence pointing to the Belgian’s intention to exit and Red Bull’s position as the most likely successful suitor.
