The issue was reported on the tracks near platforms 4 and 4C at around 9.24am on Monday (July 7) by West Midlands Railway.

The rail operator said that disruption was expected until the end of the day, with services through the station either being cancelled or delayed.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said at the time: “Due to a points failure at Birmingham New Street, fewer trains are able to run on some lines.

“Train services running through this station may be cancelled or delayed. 

It was reported at around 2pm that the issue had been resolved.
