Another mini heatwave is set to hit Liverpool towards the end of this week, with temperatures set to reach a high of 32C. After a few weeks of cooler weather, it might be time to get the sun cream back out ready for a scorching weekend in most parts of the UK. It is the second heatwave in quick succession across the country, after a short sunny period at the end of June.

In the UK, a heatwave is officially defined when a location records at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold. This threshold varies by county, reflecting the diverse climate across the UK.

As the temperatures build day-on-day, it will become widely very warm. In Liverpool and the rest of the region, high temperatures are set to begin on Thursday, July 10, with temperatures reaching highs of 25C.

The hot weather will continue into Friday when temperatures will reach 29C. The heatwave continues into the weekend, and could bring a few more uncomfortable nights of sleep as Saturday is expected to peak at 32C.

Liverpool is set to bask in the sunshine all weekend before the heat dips slightly on Sunday with highs of 30C. It slowly reduces to 27C on Monday, with cooler conditions expected further into next week.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Jason Kelly, said: “High pressure from the Atlantic will lead to a build in temperatures over the coming days, with heatwave criteria reached by the weekend.

“Whilst temperatures are expected to build day on day, becoming widely hot, they are unlikely to surpass those recorded at the start of the month. This heatwave is expected to be longer lived and extend further north and west into a larger part of the UK than previously seen this summer.

“Temperatures are expected to peak over the weekend and ease early next week. They are expected to exceed 30°C in some areas from tomorrow, with peak temperatures of 31°C on Thursday, with up to 32°C possible in parts of England and Wales on Friday.”

“Scotland is also expected to meet heatwave criteria over the weekend. This hot spell is forecast to last longer and cover a broader area than previous ones so far this summer and pollen and UV levels will be very high in some areas. For updates, do keep an eye on the Met Office forecast as the picture develops.”

Below are the highest temperatures that are forecast to be felt in Liverpool from Thursday, July 9 until Sunday, July 13:

Thursday – 25C

Friday – 29C

Saturday – 32C

Sunday – 30C

Early next week, a transition to less hot conditions is expected, but with uncertain timing. This could bring an “increasing chance” of some rain or showers, perhaps some thundery showers.
