Sean Long’s men are looking for a third straight win in the league for the first time since April, which could bring them level on points with either York or Bradford, who both face off this weekend.

Roughyeds will be strong favourites, especially with Sheffield having won just one of their last six and Oldham will also be strengthened by the inclusion of key players Matty Wildie and Kieran Dixon.

Both men have spent extended spells on the sidelines, with Wildie having had surgery on his elbow and Dixon on his arm, but the pair are expected to be named in Long’s 21-man squad tomorrow.

Their return to fitness comes at a vital time, with Oldham facing a crucial run of fixtures – including tough away trips to Bradford and York – as they aim to strengthen their position in the play-offs.

One setback for Oldham is the likely absence of Ryan Lannon, who remains doubtful after sustaining a rib injury during last weekend’s 22-4 victory over Widnes.

Opponents Sheffield, who are currently third bottom, have struggled this year under Craig Lingard.

Under previous head coach Mark Aston – who was handed an 18-month ban last October relating to a medical compliance matter – the Eagles finished fourth in 2022 and narrowly missed out on knockout rugby last year.

Yet results have been hard to come by this year with Lingard’s men currently six points adrift of safety. They will likely feature in the end-of-season showdown alongside the other three bottom sides and the top four teams from League One.
