With temperatures set to soar this weekend, where better to cool off than a water park – and Bristol has its very own complete with an inflatable obstacle course and a swimming lake.
West Country Water Park in Bradley Stoke is just a 20-minute drive from Bristol city centre, and relaunched in 2022 following a takeover.
The Aqua Park is now the main attraction, an inflatable obstacle course which provides action-packed aquatic thrills for anyone over the age of six. The park is packed with slides, tunnels and other obstacles. Families with young children should note that kids between the ages of six and eight must be accompanied by an adult while on the course.
One recent visitor wrote in a Google review: “Loved it here and swimming in the open air (among fish!) is always exhilarating. We went for the sauna package which felt a little unnecessary on such a hot day, but it was nice nonetheless and I bet it’s lovely in cooler seasons.”
She raised a few “minor niggles” including a lack of cycle parking and “basic” changing rooms but added: “It’s still a lovely place and the atmosphere is a lot nicer than another nearby lake-based attraction.”
Overall the park boasts a 4.6-star rating on Google from more than 250 reviews. Another customer commented: “What an amazing place for paddle boarding, canoeing and swimming. First time here with the wife and we loved every min of it. Friendly and helpful staff, really enjoyed our stay.”
To keep everybody safe, the water park has a team of trained lifeguards supervising at all times. The excitement doesn’t end with the obstacle course, with windsurfing and water skiing also available.
For those looking for a slightly calmer day, the water park also offers stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing and open-water swimming on its lake. At this time of year, the water should be warm enough to take a dip in your swimsuit, but anyone who runs slightly cooler can rent a wetsuit if required.
There is even a floating sauna, which might not come in that handy with temperatures as high as 33C this weekend. The park’s on-site cafe offers a waterside spot for a coffee or a bit of lunch but it should be noted that bringing your own food and drink is not allowed.
The on-site car park is free to paying customers of the park. Booking in advance, especially on such a hot weekend, is highly recommended and also cheaper than paying on the door. Prices vary depending on the activity but a swim session is priced at £8.50 for adults, while the aqua park is pricier at £24.
This month and next month, Gromit Unleashed 3 enthusiasts can tick a statue off their list by visiting the park. Appropriately enough, a Fisherman’s Friend Wallace is waiting there to greet visitors.
